A Systematic Approach to Mapping Regimes of Earthquake‐Induced Static Stress Changes Acting on Magmatic Pathways

Large earthquakes alter the crustal stress field across great distances (hundreds to thousands of kilometers) over geologically short timescales (seconds years). These changes can affect magmatic systems, triggering (or suppressing) volcanic unrest and eruption, along with other deeper processes. We use simple kinematic source models in an isotropic elastic half-space assess earthquake-induced static (>1 kPa) entire thickness lithosphere consider implications for magma ascent storage. Modeling subduction zone earthquakes, we calculate normal depth on three mutually perpendicular end-member pathways: vertical arc-parallel, arc-perpendicular, horizontal. From this, define seven change regimes within adjacent arc. Three these may strongly encourage dykes by inducing unclamping (decreased compressive stress) pathways which increases magnitude toward surface clamping horizontal pathways.
